Trend we LOVE: Luxury Sportswear

For the past few months, I have been very disappointed in fashion. At first I thought it was because I used to work as a buyer in Puerto Rico and always saw trends in apparel or shoes before they became mainstream. Usually when everyone was very into a trend I was already sick of it. I tried to stay patient….nothing. I visited the stores (affordable and high end) over and over and….nothing. Same thing that I’ve been seeing for over a year now! Tribal prints, flowers, crochet, plaids, UGH! I was constantly discussing this with my fashionista friends and we all agreed… what’s happening?! I was BORED! Finally, a week ago, I went to H&M and was impressed by the looks on the mannequins. I’ve always been a fan of oversized stuff and even though the 90s have been IN for a while now, I still like them and even more now, with this minimalistic/street/sporty/chic direction going on.

This DKNY Resort 2015 collection which was presented in June blew my mind and represents perfectly the luxury sportswear mania. The label is celebrating its 25th anniversary and I guess the design team went all out, successfully. The color palette is beautiful: neutrals with accents of red, blue and my favorite, peach. Feathers, tulle, sheer pieces, embellishments, bomber jackets, pearls, wow! To keep it interesting, they paired these ultra feminine pieces with caps and sneakers. It’s the perfect mix of ladylike and tomboy. This collection was definitely my favorite for Resort 2015. ❤

Bananas’ Favorites: Spring 2014 Couture Shows

Last week designers presented their Spring 2014 Couture collections and we were loving it! Personally I prefer Spring collections and even better COUTURE SPRING collections. These were my favorites:

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI

On my top 3, definitely. I always like how he plays with structure and feminine silhouettes. The mix of pastels and bright colors was so cool and even though I’m tired of the color mint, that mint long sleeve dress is to die for!

If I was a celebrity the Fashion Police team would probably say that they’re sick of me wearing Elie Saab on red carpets. But those gowns!!!! Lovely, just lovely.

CHANEL 

Sending all models wearing delicate pieces with sneakers was a risk that in my opinion paid off. Finally something different on the runway. That last look on Cara Delevingne was so cool!

CHRISTIAN DIOR 

This collection reminded me of Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton’s) and anything that reminds me of Alice is a win for me. Burton’s Alice btw because one of my favorite things from that movie was Alice’s wardrobe. It was playful but sophisticated. Two of my favorite looks were the black jacket with the green shoes and the white graphic crop top with the skater skirt.

VALENTINO

Valentino needs no explanation of why it’s on my favorites list, does he? When I saw that first dress I thought I died and went to fashion heaven. I mean, music + tulle on a dress? IN LOVE! Of course that dress was my favorite from ALL! The collection reminded me of Adam and Eve’s garden. Animal prints and shapes were very present in it. Also, lots of tulle. Oh, Valentino.

Banana wants: Kenzo x Vans Fall 2013

Kenzo x Vans Fall 2013 collection launched this week. And once again it brought us some awesome patterned sneakers. And I want them all!

This time they produced 4 different prints: “Flying Tiger”, “Day Clouds” and the “Lightning Bolt” which comes in 2 colors. I specially love the blue ones

The tiger style seemed so appropriate with Katy Perry’s “Roar” ruling the airwaves but the Lightning bolt ones look so effortless and cool that it made them my favorite in the collection. Plus, they’d add the perfect pop to any outfit.

Banana Wants: Sk8-Hi LX MIckey Mouse

Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love Mickey Mouse. I’ve had to Mickey themed birthday parties and own a few tees with his likeness. Plus, I told you before that I really like sneakers, particularly Vans.

So it should come as no surprise that I am DYING for these! It shouldn’t be a Banana Wants, but a BANANA NEEDS!

Vans Vault in collaboration with Disney launched this line of Disney themed sneakers which feature prints showcasing Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Winnie the Pooh. The sneakers were originally produced exclusively for Disney World in the ’80s but are now on sale in different online retailers.  They are also selling a toddler version of the sneakers which are really cute.

My favorite has to be the Red Sk8-Hi LX with the white and black Mickey Mouse print.

Object of Desire: Comme Des Garçons PLAY for Converse Pro Leather

As you’ll come to know, I really love 2 things: Patterns and shoes, specially sneakers.

Launching on May 28th on the Dover Street Market’s website and at the Comme des Garçons NYC store, they’ll retail for about $130-140.

They’ll come in 2 styles, the high (MID) and the low (OX) and will feature the classic Comme Des Garçons heart logo.

It might just be my next splurge!
