Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking!

Gotta love the spring season and with that, florals are in bloom.

Though it’s unusual to see florals in the menswear scene, this year, it has flooded stores, street style and editorials. I personally love it and hope it continues on. Thought it’s mostly used for shirts, it looks even better when it’s completely unexpected like in a suit jacket or a pair of sneakers. The floral patterns are a great contrast to the ultra masculine camouflage that has been on trend for a while and when combine give awesome results.

Dare to rock the flowers!

Arni’s Banana Xmas Wishlist!

Xmas is just a week away!

It’s always one of the best times of the year! The weather is nicer and cooler, there are twinkling lights everywhere and people are a bit more cheerful. Plus, it celebrates the birth of Jesus! AND GIFTS!

Who doesn’t love it just for the sake of getting and giving gifts?!
Anyway, it’s sometimes hard to shop for that special someone be it a friend, significant other or family member, specially if that person is someone like me, a constant shopper.

Here are some pretty cool things I’d love to get under my christmas tree. HINT! HINT!

London based apparel and jewelry line Stööki just launched a collection called GEODESIC in partnership with Topman and they have some pretty cool pieces. My must have is this ring! I’m a size medium 😉

Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 10.46.26 AM

Another beautiful option for jewelry would be this signet ring from Tiffany & Co. It’s cool, classic and, most of all, you can get it engraved! My initials are AJG!

Leopard is really in right now (Wait for our trend report on it soon!) One of the coolest leopard pieces you can have are the Celine slip ons but since I can’t find them anywhere online, I’m looking for suitable alternatives. These from the Steve Madden women’s line look pretty good and at $99.95 they won’t break the bank! I’m guessing I’m a women’s size 11 😉

Also in leopard, more of a snow leopard, this pretty cool backpack from Saint Laurent but I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find an imitation somewhere.

Plus, Pharrell made the Celine counterpart look pretty cool! Feel free to gift me that entire outfit!

As you guys know, I love shoes, so it comes as no surprise that my holiday wish list includes more than one pair of shoes. I’ve always been a fan of Cole Haan’s Lunargand line and for the holidays they released their Lunargrand Wingtip in metallics. I, of course, love the silver.

I’d also love these Acne Studios derby shoes that look kinda like spilled oil on asphalt.

Other things I’d love? These Saint Laurent pants

The new iPhone 5s in gold! I’ll actually take any color! though I can wait for the iPhone 6 And since we’re talking about apple products, I’d also love a new Macbook!

I always love a good fashion book. Mr Porter just released their 2nd edition of The Manual for a Stylish life. Love the black and gold version

I also love me a good watch. Jasper Morrison with Issey Miyake launched the beautiful “Please” watch.

I also love me a well designed tee. Streetmachine and Chocolate Skateboards collaborated in this City Series collection and I got to say, I’m loving the font choice.

Random things I like?

If not, I’ll settle for having my student loans paid off or world peace!

But for real, hope you guys keep enjoying our blog and we wish you HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

PRHFW: Jaer Caban

Caban‘s collection was indeed one of the shows we enjoyed the most. When we saw his pieces moving at the rehearsal (yes, actually moving) we couldn’t wait to see the actual show.

As Moby music played the first model came out and shocked everyone as the “hoodie” from her top lifted and covered her head. We posted the video on Instagram, you should check it out!

My favorites from the collection were the pieces with the Rorschach technique (the Rorschach test is a method of psychological evaluation). Specially the top with the studded pants and the long sheer dress. LOVED!

We also liked the last metallic pieces a lot. Very original and refreshing to see. That last dress was SO cool and the best past is that it was actually supposed to move as well (we saw it at the rehearsal) but unfortunately  it didn’t at the show. Still, it was a beautiful dress.

PRHFW: José Raul

We get the equestrian feeling of this show but that guy at the beginning  emulating a horse was SO weird! Since most of the pieces were menswear, Arnie had a lot of saying in this one.

We appreciate that he tried different silhouettes for men since sometimes they can be boring and repetitive, but the collection wasn’t very cohesive.

-The religious printed shirts and skirtlooked very Givenchy a couple of seasons ago.

-Some of the shirts (actually most of them) were borderline merengüero looking.

-Arnie said and I quote “those looks are perfect for singers at “El Show de las 12”

…And then that ponytail. FAIL.

The only thing I liked about this collection was the white dress at the end. At least the last impression of the collection wasn’t so bad.

PRHFW: Custo Barcelona

I was lucky enough to get to start PRHFW interviewing Custo Dalmau and then seeing his fashion show during the first night.
(INTERVIEW COMING SOON!)

As for the collection, it was really cool. It had the quintessential Custo prints but done in a more sophisticated and toned down way that worked even better. I loved all the shorts and would totally wear pretty much all the menswear looks Especially those shoes!

The music for the show was also GREAT!!  It was Mercury Rising by Hot Natured

The collection speaks for itself so  play the song while you take a look and let us know which look is your favorite. ENJOY!

San Juan Moda: Punky

The last show we attended during San Juan Moda was PUNKY‘s!

They presented an accessory collection that was styled quite interestingly but it made for some really cool pictures. Is this considered blackface? #slightlyracist?  The pieces have a cool tribal feel and are a total statement. Which one do you like?

Have a look at the awesome necklaces, earrings and sunglasses showcased by this design duo.

San Juan Moda: Pipo Pere

We haven’t forgotten about you guys! We’ve just been über busy these past few weeks!

Anyway, let’s round out our coverage of San Juan Moda so we can start talking about Puerto Rico High Fashion Week and the other events that have been going on!

PIPO PERE’S “GRAFI-CO” for S/S 2014 was an homage to the 70’s and Missoni!

Here’s few things I found interesting:

  • I liked the headbands although at times they were too costume-y
  • Sooo much fringe It was placed kinda awkwardly at times
  • Great cutout flowers in leather (?) That detail was beautiful!
  • Some pieces looked really junior and I’m not talking about the ones modeled by the kids
  • The prints were great!! But I think we have Missoni to thank for that
  • A gay couple walked down the runway in what I guess was a pro-equality statement.

What did you love? What did you hate?

San Juan Moda: Lisa Thon

We’re about halfway on our coverage of San Juan Moda!
It was an intense week with lots of shows to talk about.

Today, we’re reviewing LISA THON’S “ZENSORIAL” S/S 2014.
Lisa had a show that showcased lots of swimwear, some printed bags and a few menswear looks. What I took from it was a tropical vibe, something you’d want to wear on your time off or on a day at the beach.

When it came to the swimsuits, there was a wide variety of options, from bikinis to one piece suits for the girls but no swim trunks for men.  FAIL!
I gotta say, I did like the traditional bikinis, but the ones with the crossed halter neck just looked weird.  I just didn’t think they were  very flattering. And what about that white bikini with the tan on the bottom? OMG! AWKWARD! As for the one pieces, I felt some were very nice, with great details that could work for lots of body types and still look sexy.

My favorite part of the collection had to be the fabrics Thon used, especially the black and white chevron used for the men’s skirt and as a detail in one of the jumpsuits. I also really liked the grey fabric that looks as if it’s woven. Great illusion!

As for the men’s pieces, they were nothing out of this world. Although I did really like the chevron shirt paired with the neon belt, I felt that most of the pieces didn’t have the correct fit. The shirts were too loose and the pants had a really weird zipper!

My favorite pieces from the show were the top and skort in the black and grey woven-like fabric – the skort was great and it fit really nice! – and the closing dress in black and white modeled by Ann La Place. The only problem I had with them was that they looked a little big in the bodice.

What did you think? Do you want one of the swimsuits?
