Banana Favorites: Golden Globes 2015

It’s always refreshing to start the year with an amazing red carpet. However, these Golden Globes did not meet our expectations. There were definitely more DON’Ts than DOs (Lana Del Rey, Taryn Manning, Keira Knightley… what were you thinking?) but we loved some of the DOs. Our favorites were:

Emma Stone in Lanvin. WOW. This beautiful redhead not only knows how to rock metallics but also a jumpsuit on the red carpet. She didn’t even needed accessories or any hairdo. Emma looked flawless last night.

Even tough it looks big on her, we liked the color and fabric of this J. Mendel dress in Amanda Peet.

We have to admit we weren’t expecting Lorde to be on this list. Another win for pants last night. She rocked this Narciso Rodriguez pantsuit.

Dakota Johnson makes all over metallics look easy to wear in this Chanel dress. Definitely one of the favorites.

It’s not that we LOVE this Armani Privé gown but Allison Williams is so gorgeous that she can pull off almost anything. She looks amazing as always.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors looks so fresh and pretty. We liked the turquoise jewelry as well as her braid.

We can always count on Lupita Nyong’o to push boundaries in a red carpet. There are mixed reviews of this Giambattista Valli Couture floral gown but to us, it’s a win. She looks radiant and the color looks great on her.

We love metallics and we love feathers. Julianne Moore in Givenchy gives us another reason to.

And of course, we can always count on one of our favorite IT Girls Sienna Miller to amaze us in the red carpet as well. She looks lovely in this Miu Miu gown.

We hope the upcoming red carpets step it up. With so many beautiful gowns we saw in the runway for this season, we hope they do!

Banana’s Picks: Golden Globes 2014

Finally! Awards season is here! We missed the great fashion moments, the disasters and of course, Joan Rivers on Fashion Police.

These were our favorite looks at the Golden Globes this past Sunday:

Emilia Clarke looks effortless but so beautiful in Proenza Schouler. I liked that she didn’t overdo the look and kept it simple with the hair and accessories.

Always on my best dressed list, Zoey Saldana in Prabal Gurung looks fun but still very glamourous. This fashionista sure knows how to stand out.

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad. Her body in this dress is perfection!

The australian hottie (if you haven’t seen Wolf of Wall Street you’re missing out) Margot Robbie looked spectacular in this custom Gucci gown. I specially loved the emerald shoes!

Usually I dislike Sofia Vergara‘s dresses since they always  have a Miss Universe vibe so this is a first! She chose a strapless simple black ball gown by Zac Posen and looked like a total bombshell.

Oh, Cate. Cate Blanchet is definitely one of my fashion icons. Remember the pastel Givenchy dress at the Oscars 2011? I admire her so much for having fun with fashion. This time was no different in this lace Armani Privé.

Now THIS is how you dress for a red carpet while you’re expecting. Olivia Wilde looked gorgeous in Gucci Premiere.

The ladies in red were my favorite!

After this red carpet everyone is talking about Lupita Nyong’o. First red carpet? No problem. She NAILED IT. This Ralph Lauren caped gown was a risk that paid off.

Lupita

Another lady in red who took a risk, Emma Watson in Dior Couture. I just love Emma. Along with Lupita Nyong’o they were my best dressed.

And the rotten banana goes to….

Barney? I’m sorry Aubrey Plaza, I love you but…. no. I hated this Oscar de La Renta dress! The color is hideous and the fabric is even worse.

Hayden Panettiere is such a pretty girl but is almost always in my worst dressed list! I don’t like this Tom Ford gown and I like it even less in her. It even makes her look chubby! Also the hair as totally wrong. This whole look aged her 10 years. Hayden please call accept the Bananas as your stylists! We’ll accept gladly!

Were your favorite on our list?

Stay tuned for awards season coverage!

Mrs Carter Tour Outfits

This past Saturday I was lucky enough to watch Beyoncé live when her Mrs Carter World Tour made a stop in Puerto Rico.

Even though Alfon HATES her, I love her and I gotta say so does a lot of people and friends including my sister and some of my best friends with whom I saw the concert. We all know her music is awesome, her dance moves are sick and she’s a great singer but what stunned me the most, apart from the visuals, were her awesome costume changes.

Ranging from Emilio Pucci to Givenchy, Queen B gave us fashions to die for.

Here are some of the pieces she wore in PR.

Let’s start with my fave, the GIVENCHY outfit. An awesome cape that revealed a skintight bodysuit that could not fit her better was finished with some great booties and the accessory to kill all others, the hat with the ears. I WANT IT!

Another set, another skintight costume. This one was a lacy/brocade long sleeve gold number by RALPH & RUSSO. It reminds me of the decor in french palaces like Versailles.

One of my least favorites was the blue, Swarovski encrusted bodysuit she used 1+1. The one thing I loved about this VRETTOS VRETTAKOS creation was the way it sparkled when the lights hit it. SOOOO SPARKLY!!

Another of my favorites was this DAVID KOMA 2-piece outfit. The pattern for the top was inspired by brass musical instruments and it was paired with a patent leather half peplum skirt. This to me is one of the most wearable in real life and I feel like my sister would totally rock it.

One of her mist romantic and flowy outfit changes came courtesy of ALON LIVNE

At first I thought this fringed cocktail dress with the thigh high boots was by Balmain, but upon closer inspection, and some research, I found out it’s by EMILIO PUCCI. Same as the green leopard printed fringe dress that I loved.

And finally, she debuted this white ensemble in Puerto Rico so we can say we got something special!  This was the outfit she chose to open the show and show us that she indeed had some hair to do her majestic hair flips, but does anyone know who the pieces are by?

Did you enjoy the concert?? What was your favorite look? Are you as bummed as I am that she didn’t perform “Grown Woman”? Sound off in the comments!

2013 CFDA Fashion Awards

The CFDA Fashion Awards took place last Sunday in NYC and it was spectacular.

Known as the Fashion Oscars, designers, models and other celebrities were there to celebrate the achievement of the fashion industry this past year.

Apart from the winners – which I will detail later in the post – we have to talk about what was worn! Some were great and some were not so. Let us check it out!

Dianne Von Furstenberg failed to impress in this cut out cocktail dress.

Brad Goreski went full out in a Madras suit which was very appropriate for summer.

Anna Wintour wearing a fur lined Chanel jacket during the summer which is confusing :/

Hailee Steinfeld made a statement in her Suno patterned crop top and skirt and Douglas Booth looked dapper in Tom Ford.

Zachary Quinto in a grey suit by Todd Snyder looks very much like a modern gentleman.

Thom Browne delighted us in one of his short tuxedoes which definitely stood out from the rest.

Puerto Rican Supermodel Joan Smalls definitely looked gorgeous in this dress by Givenchy!

Also wearing Givenchy, Adriana Lima.

Jack and Lazaro from Proenza Schouler cute as ever!

Hilary Rhoda in a Helmut Lang black and white dress looked fabulous!

Zac Posen took advantage of the floral trend for his accessories and made it work

Loved what Michael Bastian wore!

Rooney Mara stunned in this Clavin Klein dress.

Nicole Ritchie looks fabulous as always in a sleek and sexy metallic gown by Marc Jacobs. Best Dressed nominee!

One of my choices for Best Dressed for the night was Karlie Kloss. The stunning 20 year old super model looked stunning in Cushnie et Ochs!

Another choice for Best dressed: Erin Wasson in Alexander Wang! The geometric panels mixed with the sheer makes this gown sexy, chic and a clear statement.

There were so many more looks but these stood out! Let us know which one you thought was the best in the comments and or if there was someone we didn’t include!

Givenchy Pre-Spring 2014 Menswear Collection

Inspired by Latin culture, this collection has some things in common with the womenswear collection but it has added the mix and match of prints like camouflage, florals and flames, making it have a type of collage/decoupage feel.

In my honest and humble opinion, I think it’s a BIT too much but I’m sure some of the pieces can work well by themselves or paired with something else, especially the ones with the Bambi print on them. I’m pretty sure I’ll get to like the stripe/pattern design once I see it styled differently.  THESE ARE DEFINITELY BANANAS!

We’ll just have to see!

Here are a few images and you can check out the entire collection on Hypebeast!
